Islendik ýurtda dilden aýdylýan, halk sungatynyň iň ýaýran aýtgylary nakyllar we atalar sözleri bolup, olaryň ýüze çykan wagty henize çenli anyk däldir. Nakyllar we atalar sözleri diliň asly bolup duryarlar we adamlaryň durmuşy, medeniýeti bilen tanyşmaga ajaýyp mümkinçilik berýärler.
Iňlis dilinde ýüzlerçe nakyllar we atalar sözleri bar. Olar halkyň gadymdan gelýän nesilleri tarapyndan döredilip, asyrlaryň dowamynda ösýär we kämilleşyär.

General information about proverbs and sayings.
Language is a world with its own structure, system of values, problems and experiences. Proverbs and sayings, phraseology, neologisms, winged expressions and other means make speech more vivid, figurative, saturated and in this way stimulate communicative, cognitive and aesthetic motivation to master the language.
Proverbs and sayings give an excellent opportunity to get acquainted with the life and culture of people for whom the language is native.
There are hundreds of proverbs and sayings in the English language. They have been created by many generations of people, developed and improved over the centuries.
Proverbs and sayings are a widespread genre of folklore.
Shortness is an essential aspect of memorable sayings. Very few proverbs and sayings are verbose; most contain no more than five words.
Better late than never.
No pains, no gains.
Drilling exercises with proverbs will help learners practise vowels and consonants. For example:
Vowels:
• A friend in need is a friend indeed.
• Something is better than nothing.
In addition, proverbs and sayings can help develop the most difficult English sounds that are not found in the mother tongue:
• interdental sounds [ θ, ð ]: Wealth is nothing without health.
There are also other linguistic phenomena of English proverbs such as:
An open enemy is better than a false friend.
Never put off till tomorrow what you can do today .
Think before you leap.
As well as any experienced language teacher can imagine how beneficial can be applying this lexical richness of the language in communicative classes as they are a good store of vocabulary and grammar structures and can be found for any topic and for any occasions of life.
